Muy Macho

According to Cal, it appears the boys in Kindergarten are trying hard to impress each other. He reports every day about some  impressive feat, opportunity, or skill his friends have bragged about. For instance, one friend "saw a helicopter blow up in the sky," while another friend "got a special tour of SeaWorld and got to swim with the orcas." The latest? "My friend, yeah, he says his great grandpa is related to Jesus. He has a letter from Jesus." How can you argue with that? That kid wins. I definitely want to sit next to him at circle time.

Bravado begins way too early.

My brave boy after an epic wipe out

On the Farm

Ben: "I know where milk comes from....cows."
Mom: "Do you know where eggs come from?"
Ben: "Yes, dinosaurs."

Cal and Ben

Brothers - so similar, yet so different. Here's some of the funny ways we're seeing their little personalities shine through their reactions to general situations. Not everything is the opposite. However, as a  mom it always fascinates me to see how they're so different from one another.

Ben: "Cal, why are you grumpy? I'm happy."

Cal: "My favorite weather is tornadoes."
Ben: "Mines is sunshine!"

Mommy: "No doughnuts this morning."
Ben: "Okay, mama."
Cal: "You don't love me! You're not my friend anymore!"

Cal pick: Chocolate
Ben's choice: Vanilla

Mommy: "Good night. Sweet dreams!"
Ben: "Good night." (blows kiss)
Cal: "No, no, snuggle with me!" (flailing)

Heard In Our House

Mom: "Goodnight, nugget. Sweet dreams."
Cal: “Good night mama. See you in the middle of the night!” (Referring to his nightly jump into our bed).

Setting: Ben and Dad chatting at the kitchen table
Dad: "What do you want to be when you grow up? You can be anything."
Ben: Silence.
Dad: "Do you want to be a fireman?"
Ben: "Yes."
Dad: "Do you want to drive an ambulance?"
Ben: "No."
Dad: "Do you want to be an astronaut and walk on the moon?"
Ben: "No. I don’t want to drive to the moon. That's a long way."

Setting: Dad and Cal riding in the car.
Dad: "What do you want to be when you grow up?"
Cal: "A bank robber."

Setting: The Black Butte Pool. Cal standing in line at the slide. Sees boy approaching.
Cal: "Hi! Hi! Remember me? We're old friends. I met you yesterday."
